"How do I find joy during this world’s turmoil? When the news is overwhelmingly sad I feel down and depressed. To feel better, I need to be in nature to see beauty and feel freedom. This for me is paired with physical activity: cycling, hiking, skating or skiing. So, this painting represents my moving through different landscapes. The organization of the horizontal shapes represents a sense of peace and control and the colours are soothing and calming."

Louise Savoie is a French Canadian artist living in Calgary. While living in Montreal as a young adult, she attended live drawing classes as an escape from her non-creative job. After a divorce in her 30’s, she attended design school and became an interior designer. Twenty years later, she found herself on the west side of the country and started painting seriously.
