Donna Hanson was born in the 1950’s on the Ab prairies. Hanson has always been creative and rediscovered her love of art during her Residential Interiors classes at the University of Alberta.

While working in the Int design field in the late 90’s, she began to paint and draw in a variety of mediums. It was when she discovered the medium of encaustic in 2011 that she felt she had discovered her true artistic self. Hanson now describes herself as making art for the senses by painting with beeswax and fire. She is self taught in the art of encaustic painting and has immersed herself in the medium, experimenting with incorporating different media into encaustic medium, creating dramatic skies and textural landscapes that beg to be touched.

Living on the prairies her whole life, Hanson’s work is influenced by the landscape that surrounds her. She aims to bring the viewer into her paintings in the hope they evoke feelings and memories from their past. She lives and paints in Camrose AB.
