Barb Burgess
I am interested in the tension between geometric structure and organic form. By fragmenting and reassembling objects, I have created a sense of spatial disorientation that challenges traditional perception while emphasizing rhythm, pattern and the interplay between flatness and depth.

My work in this series explores the beauty and complexity of everyday objects through the visual language of still life and cubism. Using acrylic on canvas, I have transformed familiar scenes into dynamic compositions that elevate the mundane and invite closer attention.

Colour plays a central role in my process here. I have used bold, carefully considered palettes to establish harmony and contrast, guiding the viewer’s eye across the surface. Patterns and repetition reinforce a sense of movement, while the square format provides a contained space in which each element exists in relation to the whole.
Through this approach, I aim to reframe ordinary objects, encouraging viewers to find beauty, energy, and meaning in the everyday.
