Barb has been painting and studying art for most of her life, including by taking art classes at the Alberta College of Art and Design, continuing studio lessons for many years, and participating in various artist workshops.
As an artist, Barb is most inspired by still-life painting, choosing subjects that are close at hand and a part of our everyday lives – those things that often receive only cursory attention on their own. By imparting these subjects with her creative use of line and a skewed perspective, the mundane reach out to evoke curiosity and engage the viewer in a deeper analysis.
For Barb, it is always a thrill to convert a flat white canvas into an image with depth, form, mood and light using only color. She loves being a part of a process that converts an empty space into a small story, capturing a moment in time. This transformation by the artist is a continuous source of wonder for her, both in the course of her own work and in the appreciation of the work of others.
