Discovering the Landscape in Acrylic and Mixed Media

This acrylic (with a titch of mixed media for added spice!) experience invites you to explore the landscape with fresh eyes and a fearless brush.

Through demos, guided exercises and plenty of personal support, Sue will show you how to simplify what you see and turn it into lively expressive painting.

You’ll learn how to build stronger compositions, use colour to create depth and mood, and handle acrylics with greater ease and confidence.  The focus is on exploration, not perfection - helping you move beyond copying a scene to truly interpreting it.

This workshop is perfect for painters of all levels who want to refresh their approach, take creative risks, and discover new ways of interpreting the landscape in acrylic.

In Sue’s workshop, you will learn:

• How to begin a landscape painting in several different ways, that are textural, gestural and intuitive, in order to explore which of these approaches best serves your subject and intent.
• How to work on several paintings at once, and to continually move back and forth between them, evaluating each one with fresh eyes.  
• How to use the drying properties of acrylic paint to create fantastic visual texture and effects.
• How you can layer colour to create beautiful effects and harmonies in your work.
• How the use of neutrals and a limited palette work to strengthen your paintings.
• How you can use transparent, translucent, and opaque paint to create drama, atmosphere and depth.
