Maggie Warkentin

Maggie is a full-time contemporary landscape and botanical artist located in Alberta, Canada. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland and from an early age had a passion to draw, design and create. Therefore, it was a natural step for her to pursue a career in one of the arts. She chose interior design and spent over 30 years as a professional interior designer.

She founded and operated her own successful firm in Southern Alberta and was a part-time interior design faculty member at Lethbridge College.

In 2008 Maggie sold her interior design firm and she and her husband, Vern 'retired' to Sidney, Vancouver Island. It was on the Island that she took up painting initially as a hobby.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Alberta and British Columbia as well as travel throughout Canada and abroad, were her inspiration.

In 2016, life took another turn when twin grandchildren were born in Calgary, so they made the decision to return to Alberta and now happily live in Calgary.

Although mostly a self-taught artist, painting has become a passion and an exciting second career for Maggie. She draws on the principles of her interior design experience to create paintings. Through composition, capture of light, vibrant colours and bold interpretive lines, she strives to bring uniqueness to each painting.

Her art pieces have found new homes throughout Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe and Bermuda.

Maggie is a juried Exhibiting Member of the national Federation of Canadian Artists and its Calgary Chapter.
