A 20 year career as an Aerospace Engineering Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force took her across Canada and around the world, experiences that deepened her connection to the sky as a source of inspiration, peace, and possibility.
Today, Jodi draws on her experiences, travels, and prairie roots to explore themes of identity, connection, and hope through landscape. Her work has been exhibited throughout North America and is held in collections as far away as Australia. She currently works from her studio in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Artist Statement
Influenced by my travels, the Impressionist masters, and personal metaphors, I create layered acrylic paintings that explore texture, light, memory, and possibility. I begin with graphite sketches, then build expressive layers using broad brushes and palette knives. Working intuitively in quiet spaces, I use loose gestures and memories of people and places to create paintings filled with hope.
I often leave passages open, revealing drawing lines and earlier layers beneath the surface. For me, these glimpses honour our roots, the experiences, places, and relationships that shape who we become, while my skies serve as symbols of ever changing possibilities. They reflect my belief that our stories are never fixed. They are continually unfolding.
My own journey has been shaped by contrast. I am a military veteran who grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, trained as an aerospace engineer, and am now a full time artist. Travel throughout Europe and North America has deepened my appreciation for the connections between seemingly different landscapes and experiences. These physical and metaphorical landscapes continue to inform my work, with the sky serving as a constant thread, a place of connection, perspective, and possibility.
